With an ensemble that shifts shape before our eyes and an atmosphere conjured through language, sound, and imagination, the play becomes not only a story about monsters–but about who is labeled as one. Acclaimed in London for its nerve-shredding tension and striking contemporary lens, Morgan Lloyd Malcom’s adaptation strips the myth to its psychological core. Directed by Jackson Gay, returning to Hartford Stage after her thrilling production of The Mousetrap, this visceral reimagining arrives in October just in time for fall frights, delivering suspense, psychological intensity, and electrifying theatrical horror.
