Nursing HHP Style

Nursing is a challenging career that offers many opportunities for personal and professional growth over a life-time. The Connecticut Community College Nursing Program [CT-CCNP] offers new students and those seeking a career change an entry into the nursing field as Registered Nurses who are eligible for employment in a variety of healthcare settings.

HHP gives place to the CT-CCNP curriculum; each Spring our 1st year nursing students study at the Isham Terry House while 2nd year nursing students study at the Wadsworth Atheneum.

First Year Experience

During the Spring semester, first year nursing students visit
The Isham Terry House

  • The Isham-Terry House (home to Dr. Oliver Isham and his medical practice), is one of CT Landmarks’ 11 historic properties, within walking distance of CT State Capital.

  • First year nursing students visit the house, rotating through four "stations" each designed to introduce them to Dr. Isham’s practice and healthcare history in late 19th and early 20th-century Hartford.

  • The program serves nearly 100 students and ten faculty annually.

Second Year Experience

During the Spring semester, second year nursing students visit
The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art

  • Founded in 1842, the Wadsworth Atheneum is the oldest, continuously operating public art museum in the United States.

  • Critical Observation workshops serve 130 nursing students annually.

  • Students explore select artworks on view, in the company of a museum docent.

  • Conversations about the art on view overlaps with the experience of treating patients.

  • Ours is the only place-based program in the HHP that continued through the pandemic, and has been running for a decade.

Visiting the Wadsworth

“It’s helped me make sure I am not judging a patient as soon as I see them but take time to understand them based on conversations or questions being asked to them.  And, to ask questions to figure out their background to further understand why they may act a certain way or say things a certain way.”
