About the Event

Professor Jeff Partridge leads this walking tour that follows the history of Hartford's first Black church and school for Black children. We'll begin in 1819 with the founding of the African Religious Society at Center Church and learn about members of the church as we go. We'll stand in the site where the church stood from 1826 to 1954. And we'll explore Capital's tribute to the church and its people in the Nutmeg Pulpit Exhibit. All are welcome.

(Meet on steps of Center Church 675 Main Street at 12:30; or in downstairs lobby at Capital at 12:10)
